Have not tried to scan slides and negatives as yet. I installed the software on a PC and it rarely stops while viewing working on other pages but if you try to move the progress bar or preview pane, you get a beep from Windows that you can't do that while the scan is in progress. I use a V600 which has the same dMax as the V500. We apologize, it looks like the system is down. The scanning quality is the same, so are the many other features, software etc. The V600 is both lighter and smaller, weighing 9 lbs. 1.5W lower power consumption on standby? It has much better scan quality, allowing you to handle various document and photos with ease. Most of us have film negatives, slides, and old photos that we would like to digitalize. However, it can scan 3 6x7 120 medium formats at one time while the V500 will only scan 1. We purchased this as a replacement for our older model Epson, which after 20+ years finally gave up the ghost and stopped working, we were always happy with the Epson printer as a brand and so far this new printer has not disappointed. Since lith prints need to spend 25+ minutes in the developer, using a scanner is a huge time-saver!!! I have a bit more testing to do before I start our scanning and storage project of 30+ years of pictures/ negatives (many 1000's), but am happy with the quality of the scans and the versatility of various settings within the respective modes.
